INFO

ABOUT US:

WORD: Performance Poetry at Yale is Yale University's oldest and hypest spoken word group. We put on the biggest spoken word performances on campus. Everyone in the group has different styles and levels of experience with writing and performance.

WHAT WE DO:

WORD is a group of ~15 students who meet once a week on Wednesday's from 9pm-12am. During meetings we write, perform, share, laugh, cry and hang out. We host poetry workshops for local high schools and visiting students. We also go on tour in various cities. In a addition to WORD, many of our members are a part of Yale's travelling slam poetry team, which competes against other colleges on the national level and is currently ranked 17th in the country. At the end of the day, WORD is a family of people who love each other and love what they do :)

BOOKING:

WORD has been leading performances and workshops for years--- everywhere from Stuyvesant and Choate high schools to Barnard College and UC Boulder. Our poets have been published and recorded and competed nationwide. If interested in booking, please email wordatyale@gmail.com.

SHOWS:

WORD puts on one major show per semester that is always sold out with an audience of people who love to watch us share. Outside of these two major shows, WORD also does collaboration shows with Teeth and Oye!, the other poetry groups on campus, and we perform at local high schools.

                       AUDITIONS:

Auditions usually occur at the very beginning of the year. Auditions are incredibly low pressure and fun. All you have to do is bring in a poem you’ve written and perform it for us (memorized or with paper in hand). We will help you along the way and we love to hear anyone’s work, no matter what year or experience level (most of us had never done spoken word prior to Yale). The only thing that matters is that you are enthusiastic.
